Janine Waters

Janine is an Applied Theatre Director, who has worked in the arts for the past 23 years. She set up and ran the community outreach programme at the Royal Exchange Theatre from 2002-2006, was Acting Head of Education from 2006-2007 and continues, as a freelancer, to be their lead artist on a variety of projects. In October 2007 she set up her own company, Waters Edge Arts Ltd, to produce high quality participatory theatre, to use drama in community cohesion and citizenship contexts and to be the leaders in the delivery of Arts Based Training in the North West. Prior to that, Janine worked for Shakespeare’s Globe, The Holborn Centre for Performing Arts and the Kings Head Theatre, London and for 6 years led Arts Based Training for the Office for Public Management. This followed a 9 year career as a professional actress, working in theatre and television.

Janine is committed to using the performing arts to help improve people’s well being and to create entertaining and inspiring theatre. Janine has been awarded the John Thaw Fellowship at Manchester University from January 2008-September 2010, is a member of the Greater Manchester Refugee Arts Partnership and is a Trustee of Community Arts North West. Janine’s projects have won several awards for its funders, including The Lever Prize/North West Leadership Team Employees Award at the Arts and Business Bravo Awards and the Business in the Community Big Tick Award.
